Traditional Assessment
Much like the Educative Assessment course, this course will address key assessment concepts such as validity and reliability. However, it will be different in that it will focus on ‘objective’ questions: multiple-choice, true-false, matching, fill-in-the-blank and short answer questions. While it may seem like traditional tests are easier to write and to grade, they are harder to write well and their results are harder to interpret.
This course will provide participants with the tools to:
* connect the tests and questions more concretely with the course or units’
learning goals
* write better questions
* improve objective test validity and reliability
* grade the questions effectively and efficiently
* analyze student responses to questions and improve individual question
validity and reliability
When used in conjunction with Educative Assessment, Traditional Assessment allows teacher to write better and fairer tests and, as a result, gain more insight into their students’ progress towards learning goals, bring their teaching and assessment practices into greater alignment and, in general, promote a healthier assessment environment in their courses.
