While the Training and Professional Development streams courses emphasizes ‘active’ and participatory learning, we recognize that there are many times when traditional teaching/learning activities such as lecturing and asking/answer questions can and should be used. In addition to providing the theoretical background to make lectures and asking/answering questions more effective in the classroom, this course will focus on providing teachers with the skills to

 

  • * Decide when and for what types of learning goals lecturing can be used
  •    most appropriately to address

 

  • * Take course lecture content and organize this material for greater efficiently
  •    and impact

 

  • * Select and use examples, demonstrations and other methods to make their 
  •    lectures come alive for their students

 

  • * Design and use small activities to enhance lecture content, to engage the
  •    students in learning and applying the lectures main points and to keep 
  •    students’ attention focused

 

  • * Ask students questions and answer student questions on lecture content
